يحتوي هذا الكتيب على ثلاثة مجموعات من النصوص والأحاديث والخطب، التي ألقاها أغناطيوس الرابع بطريرك أنطاكية وسائر المشرق. في المجموعة الأولى يقرأ المطالع الهم اللبناني الذي يحتضنه وعي لدور الأرثوذكس يقوم على مبرر الوجود الكنسي، يرفض كل أسس أقلوي، في تأكيد على الحرية وحرص على وحدة الجماعة الوطنية. وخطاب البطريرك اغناطيوس الرابع في مؤتمر القمة الإسلامي في الطائف يستهل المجموعة الثانية من النصوص حول القدس والعلاقات المسيحية - الإسلامية والعروبة، أما المجموعة الثالثة فانشغلت، أساساً، بقضية الوحدة الأنطاكية. والرؤية المسكونية عند اغناطيوس الرابع، تطلع من جرح أصحاب المحبة، فتدعو للتلاقي في الرسالة الواحدة وإلى استعادة الهوية الأنطاكية ووعي لاهوت الكنيسة المحلية.
هذه النصوص المختارة من أحاديث البطريرك أغناطيوس الرابع وخطبه ومقابلاته الصحفية تتنوع في اهتماماتها لكنها مشدودة إلى توجه واحد.
وهي في تناولها لقضايا لبنان والقدس والوحدة الانطاكية والتلاقي المسيحي-الإسلامي، ترسم موقفاً روحياً يتطلع، عبر هواجس الحاضر، إلى مسيحية شرقية تعيد اكتشاف هويتها لا في الأصالة فحسب، بل في الرسالة التي دعاها الله إليها.
