وعليه فقد جاء عنوان البحث على النحو الآتي: "سيميائيَّة البيان عند الجاحظ"؛ وقد اقتضت طبيعة الدِّراسّة أن يتكون البحث من مقدمة، وتمهيد، وثلاثة فصول، وخاتمة، وثبت المصادر والمراجع، وفهرسة الموضوعات، وها هي الخطة التي اتبعتها في تناول هذا الموضوع: هذه المقدمة التي ذكرت فيها أهميَّة الموضوع، وأسباب اختياره، وأهداف الموضوع، والدراسات السابقة، ومنهج البحث.
ثم جاء التمهيد الذي عرضت من خلاله لمحة عن حياة عمرو بن بحر الجاحظ وأدبه، ثم عرضت لمحة عن نشأة السيميائيَّة عند الغرب وعند العرب، ونشأة علم السيميائيات وعلاقتها بعلم اللسانيات، من اللسانيات التاريخيَّة إلى اللسانيات الوصفيَّة.
