عبر لغة سلسلة عذبة تعنى بالتفاصيل والحركات والجزئيات، يستخدم الدكتور "عبد الحسن حسن خلق" تقنيات متعددة للتعبير عن حالات إنسانية شفافة ما يجعل نصوصه قابلة لإحتمال الإعترافات والسيرة الذاتية لأصحابها. هي قصص من واقع الحياة تتراوح بين النقدي والفني والسياسي والإجتماعي، وتتمظهر في مواقف معينة، وسلوكيات جسدتها شخصيات حالمة هاربة من زحمة الواقع ومشكلاته كحال "صبيح المؤمن" في القصة التي إفتتح بها الروائي المجموعة حيث يسافر البطل بأحلامه إلى السماء، فأصبح يسمع أخبار الأرض عن طريق جهاز ينقل له أخباراً عن الأرض وسكانها، فهناك في العالم العلوي ينظر صبيح المؤمن إلى الأرض فيجد أن الدولة قويت شوكتها وبسطت قانوناً يعاقب الظالم وينصف المظلوم "أم أن الله سبحانه آلف بين قلوبهم وأصلح بينهم!! أسئلة وتأملات ازدحمت في ذهن المؤمن؟!"... لتنتهي القصة باستيقاظ "المؤمن" من نومه على صوت المؤذن وهو يناديه فجراً: الله أكبر الله أكبر... وهكذا تحمل الأحلام لأبطال "الحب والحيرة" شيئاً من الطمأنينة والأمل...
يضم الكتاب ستة قصص قصيرة جاءت تحت العناوين الآتية: "حيرة ودليل"، "لواعج حب"، "وداع"، "قفي قبل التفرق يا جميلة"، "أسمهان"، "لا تسقطي مأمونة"، وماذا يبتغي السَراق مني؟".
دخل المدينة عند الغروب خائفاً يتلفت يرتدي ملابس قديمة، يتوكأ على عصا قدماه حافيتان، يوحي للشرطة أنه مطارد مذعور، استغاث بهم من بعيد:
ـ يا أبناء الحكومة. يا أهل الغيرة والمروءة أدركوا العشائر سيقتل بعضهم بعضاً ركضوا نحوه سائلين:
ـ ما الخبر؟ ماذا حدث؟
أجاب: عشقت فتاة من أهل القرية، وقد أجبرني الشيطان على مجامعتها.
