هذا الكتاب يتضمّن شهادة أمينة على عهد السلطان قابوس كما تابعتُ مجرياته وأحداثه طوال ثمانية وعشرين عاماً قضيتها مراقباً لما يجري بعين فاحصة لما وراء الأحداث، وهو الذي أمضى خمسة وأربعين عاماً في سدة الحكم كان خلالها أقرب ما يكون إلى صاحب رسالة ومبادئ منه إلى صاحب سلطة وسلطان، حيث تمكّن من قيادة شعبه في مرحلة غاية في الحساسية وسط صراعات إقليمية ودولية وأوضاع داخلية كادت تفتك بالنسيج الوطني، محققاً مكتسبات لا تقتصر على تغيير الواقع الصعب إلى نهضة حديثة تمثلت في التأسيس لدولة عصرية إنما تفرّدت في تجاربها الإنسانية عن الآخرين ضمن محيطها الإقليمي.
وإن كان قد حقّق الكثير لعُمان وشعبها والمنطقة الخليجية والعربية، فإن تلك المكتسبات الحاضرة بقوة على الصعد كافة، خاصة منها التوازن السياسي والإستقرار الأمني والنزعة المكشوفة لتبنّي قرارات تنبع من إرادة حرة ومصلحة وطنية قد لا تروق للبعض، فإن واجب العمانيين هو التمسك بتلك المكتسبات، والوقوف صفاً واحداً مدركين أن وحدتهم الوطنية وسلامهم الإجتماعي هو المكسب الأغلى والأثمن في منطقة تتهددها المطامع والفتن من كل حدب وصوب.
