"كثير من أساتيذ الجامعات المصرية ومعهم إخوتهم المصريون من باحثين وكتّاب وقصاصين وشعراء، وفيهم بعض زعماء الأدب الحديث ممن كتبوا في تاريخ أخناتون الفرعون المصري (1369- 1354 ق.م) يطيرون به فرحاً كلما ذكروه، حتى أنهم جعلوه أعظم من أنبياء الله تعالى ورسله، وادّعوا أن أخناتون أسبق من جاء بديانة توحيدية صحيحة، وأشاعوا ذلك بين الناس وأكدوه حتى تحولت الأبطولة بل الأكذوبة في الأذهان إلى حقيقة ثابتة يؤمن بها من قرأوا لأولئك المدعين الذين زعموا لأخناتون من المجد الديني العظيم ما يخلوا به على الأنبياء والمرسلين".
"ومع أن الأستاذ عباس محمود العقاد من الكتّاب النوادر الموصوفين بسلامة الفهم لوقائع التاريخ والناس، فقد أصابه شيء من العدوى فأسرف في مديح أخناتون مع أنه يقرر أن أخناتون لم يكن مؤمناً بالبعث والنشور وبعذاب الآخرة".
"نحن نقرر أن عهود الفراعنة عهود وثنية وكفر، ولم تكن قط عهود وحدانية".
