يعد "إخناتون" حالة فريدة بين سائر ملوك التاريخ. فهذا الفرعون الفيلسوف ورث إمبراطوية عظيمة، مترامية الأطراف، تمتد من الفرات شمالاً حتى الجندل الرابع جنوباً.
ذلك "الفرعون الزاهد"- يعرض عن هذا النعيم، ويهجر كل هذا الثراء غير مبال، وينزع إلى التصوف والرهبنة. فكان يختلى وحيداً، متأملاً، ومتفكراً فى الكون من حوله، ممعنا النظر فى عظمة الخالق والمخلوقات.
ومن بين مخلوقات الكون استرعى انتباهه ذلك "القرص العجيب" المعلق فى السماء، الذى يهل علينا كل صباح، فيهب النور لسائر المخلوقات التى تحيا على أديم الأرض.
كان "إخناتون" كثيراً ما يحدث نفسه: أى قرص هذا؟!.. ومن أين له هذه القوة الخارقة، التى لا حدود لها؟!..أهو "خالق الكون"؟.. أم هو مخلوق كسائر المخلوقات؟.
فى نهاية الأمر.. اهتدى تفكيره إلى أن هذا القرص ليس إلا مخلوقا بين سائر المخلوقات التى تعج بها السماء، تتحكم فيه قوة أعظم، لا تدركها العيون المجردة، لأنها أوهن من أن ترى أو تدرك هذه "القوة الخالقة" التى أبدعت كل هذه الأيات.
لقد أدرك هذا الزاهد المصرى أن قرص الشمس العظيم ليس إلا رمزاً لهذا "الخالق الأعظم".
ولم تكن هذه الأفكار إلا إرهاصات العقيدة الجديدة، التى ستقود إلى ثورة دينية نحو "الوحدانية"، وعبادة "الإله الواحد".
كانت دعوة "إخناتون" إلى "الوحدانية" حدثاً فريداً ليس فى تاريخ مصر وحدها، ولكن فى "التاريخ البشرى" كله. فلأول مرة يدعو ملك -نبيا- قومه إلى عبادة "الإله الواحد"، ومحاربة كل رموز التعددية الوثنية. ورغم أن هذه الدعوة لم تستمر أمداً طويلاً، إلا أن أثرها كان خالداً، تجاوز حدود الأراضى المصرية إلى أفاق أرحب وأعظم.. جعل البعض يظن أن "إخناتون" لم يكن إلا نبياً من الأنبياء؟!.
