جرت أحداث هذه الرواية على "مسرح الجنون العربي" في لبنان والكويت، ومعظم ما ورد فيها واقعي، وقليل منه خيال أدبي.
إنها تحكي قصة فتاة لبنانية عايشت مع أسرتها أهوال الحرب الأهلية اللبنانية وويلاتها، فأجبرتها ظروف الحرب على الهجرة إلى الكويت.
وهي تصف الأحداث بإحساسها المرهف وتصوُّرها الأدبي الشائق، وتكتب بروحها لا بقلمها، وبخاصة في وصفها شراسة المتقاتلين، وتعاطف المحبين، فتجسد التناقض البشري، وكأنها ترسم بريشة ولا تكتب بقلم، فتجعل القارئ يعيش معها الأحداث بنفسه وروحه، ويعيد النظر في كثير من أفكاره ومسلماته.
وطريقة سرد الأحداث تشدُّ القارئ وتشوِّقه لمعرفة ما حدث وكيف حدث، من خلال حياة تلك الفتاة وأسرتها التي كُتبت لها النجاة، وأما من عايش تلك الأحداث فسيستعيد ذكرياتها بمزيج من الأسى والتأمل في الماضي وإستشراف المستقبل.
أما معنى اسم الرواية "لعنة البيركوت" فسنتركه للقارئ يستنتجه من خلال قراءته هذه الرواية الواقعية الماتعة.
