يقوم هذا البحث في شعر إيليا أبو شديد على قراءة الإختلاف الحاصل بين قصائده من أجل إظهار تأثّره بموضوعات كثيرة في عالم الأدب.
وقد اختار الكاتب عنواناً يقارب الفلسفة، وقد عرفنا من خلال سيرة "إيليا أبو شديد أنه تنقّل بين لبنان وأفريقيا، وفقد والده وهو بعد في الرابعة من عمره، كذلك خسر ابنه الرضيع، فكان القلق سمةً أساسية في عالمه.
وبعد التوسّع في دراسة بنية القصيدة، انتقل الكاتب إلى دراسة مستويات التركيب وكيف أسهمت في رسم جمالية الفكرة، فالوظيفة الجمالية تتجلى في مستويي البلاغة والفونولوجيا.
وقسمت الدراسة إلى ثلاثة أقسام: القسم الأول ركّز على الصور، فصارت القصيدة لوحة مميزة ومتناسقة تجمعها بنية دلالية واحدة، القسم الثاني ركز على الأسطورة كقصة وتاريخ، القسم الثالث اعتمد على التحولات والتضمينات.
