"يضمّ هذا الكتاب مجموعة من الكتابات التي نُشِرَت في تسعينيّات القرن العشرين، خلال الفترة الممتدّة بين سنة 1992م إلى سنة 1998م، وهي الحقبة التي شهد فيها الفكر الإسلامي طوراً مهمّاً ومؤثّراً في مساراته ومسلكيّاته الفكريّة والتاريخيّة، وارتسمت فيها تغيّرات وتحوّلات شديدة الفاعليّة والتأثير في المجال الإسلامي بصورة عامة.
والدّارسون والمهتمّون بحقل الإسلاميّات المعاصرة سيظلّون في حاجة مستمرّة إلى العودة إلى هذه الحقبة، والتوقّف عند أحداثها وتطوّراتها الفكريّة والسياسية، وذلك لأهميتها من ثلاث جهات: من جهة ما قبلها، لكون هذه الحقبة متّصلة ومتفاعلة مع حقبتي السبعينيّات والثمانينيّات، ومن جهة خاصة بها، لكونها تمثّل خاتمة القرن العشرين الذي شهد أحداثاً كبرى غيّرت مجرى التاريخ الإنساني، ومن جهة ما بعدها، لكون هذه الحقبة جاءت متصلة بالقرن الحادي والعشرين.
وتنتمي هذه الكتابات، كما هو واضح، إلى حقل الإسلاميّات المعاصرة، وتُعنى بدراسة الفكر الإسلامي المعاصر، ومن حيث التوصيف هي كاتبات إستطلاعيّة في الأساس تتوخّى رصد وتوثيق المواقف والتصوّرات الإسلاميّة المعاصرة، وتكوين المعرفة بها، وذلك من خلال العودة إلى نصوص ومقالات تتعلّق بجملة من المفاهيم الأساسيّة والملحّة".
