حقيقة الخطاب ليست هي مجرد الدخول في علاقة مع الغير، وإنما هي الدخول معه فيها على مقتضى الإدعاء والاعتراض، بمعنى أنّ الذي يحدد ماهية الخطاب إنما هو العلاقة الاستدلالية وليس العلاقة التخاطبية وحدها. فلا خطاب بغير حجاج، ولا مخاطب من غير أن تكون له وظيفة المدعي، ولا مخاطب من غير أن تكون له وظيفة المعترض... فإذا ثبت أن الحجاج هو الأصل في الخطاب، وثبت أيضاً أن العلاقة الاستدلالية أصلية يتفرع عليها سواها ولا تتفرع على سواها، وإذا تضمن الخطاب علاقة تخاطبية، فيجب حينئذ ردها إلى العلاقة الاستدلالية.
