القصيدة عند الشاعر أنور سلمان ذات مفهوم شعري يميزها عن أنواع شعرية أخرى، لأنها قصيدة ترتكز حصراً على شخصية بطلة في إنتاج دلالاتها، وغالباً ما تكون هذه الشخصية هي (المرأة) في حياة الشاعر، حيث يكون حضورها مرناً ومتفاعلاً مع أنساق أخرى كالحوار والوصف والمكان والزمان وما إلى ذلك من تقنيات سردية تعمل على دعم وإسناد بنية القصيدة، يتمظهر هذا الكلام أكثر في القصيدة المعنونة" إذا سألوكِ" وقد جاءت بأـسلوب حكائي في سرد شعري حاذق، جميل وشفاف، يقول الشاعر:
"إذا سألوكِ في يوم: / لِمَنْ يهدي قصائدهُ، / وفي أي العيونِ نجومهُ تسهرْ؟ / ومن تلك التي هتفتْ لها .../ كلماتُهُ الخضراءُ في الدفتر؟/ فقولي دونما وجلٍ؛ / أنا وحدي قصيدتُهُ ../ رفيقتُهُ ... حبيبتُهُ/ ووحدي مَنْ بها احتفلتُ / حدائقُ وردهِ الأحمرّ!/ وكوني ألف واثقة: / بما خطتْ إليك يدي / وما حملته أشعاري/ إلى دنياكِ، / من طيبٍ ومن عنبرْ (...)".
يضم الكتاب قصائد في الشعر العربي الحديث جاءت تحت عناوين رئيسية ثلاثة هي: 1- كلمات تعمق الشعر، وتضم (21) قصيدة عمودية، 2- مواويل إلى وطن في القلب وتضم (6) قصائد غنائية، 3- أشرعة بلا مرافئ، وتضم (6) قصائد في الشعر العربي الحديث وأخرى تنتمي لقصيدة النثر.
"بعينك، رحلت أبعثر شمس حروفي على خفقات شراع جميل وأبحث لي فيها عن وطن! بعينيك كنت المسافر... كم طال بي زمن للوصول. وما زلت أبحر فوق مرور الزمن!".
