تغوص غزالة درويش في "شتاء البحر" في العالم المكبوت للكائن الصغير المهمش والمقموع، فتلتقطه في عقدة الدفينة المستعصية التي ترميه منذ البدء في الكارثة. لا يعرف الكائن الصغير المغمور ذروة بل يرتطم منذ البداية بقاع الكارثة، لذا يهيمن السرد شبه الهلاسي على اللغة، ليقيم صلات مفاجئة وغير متوقعة بين الحلم والحقيقة، ويستثمر الأبعاد الأسطورية لعقد الكائن في نص سردي طازج لا تحرم لياقات الجنس الأدبي إلا لكي يطرح الأسئلة عليها ويطوعها لاستيعاب تجربة معقدة تنفر من القيود... إن عالمها السردي هو عالم الاحتدام ما بين المقيد والطليق، المغلق والمفتوح، المحدد والمتناهي، ويلتقط هذا العالم السردي تفاصيل تثير الواقع والحياة أي ما يشكل "اليومي" في حالته المباشرة متشظية وممتزجة بعقد الكائن وانحباساته المتوترة، وقد وجد نفسه مرمياً في بوابات الجحيم، وليس في جعبته سوى أطياف أحلام صغيرة مكسورة، وكريستال مشوه من أشياء، وأشخاص، وأمكنة، وتواريخ ممزقة، تتقدم بكل أشلائها نحو الهاوية.
