"كان ديوجينيز يحمل مصباحاً ويمشي في الأسواق يبحث عن الإنسان الكامل فلا يلقاه" العارف صامت وآخر المعرفة صمت". كانت هذه العبارة هي آخر ما وجده مؤلف الكتاب محمد غازي عرابي عن شيخه الذي تتلمذ على يديه من دون أن يذكر لنا اسمه، وليكتشف من خلاله وبعد مماته أن شيخه الصوفي العارف وصل إلى أفق من الإيمان والبصيرة يصعب فهمها للإنسان العادي فكتب يقول –أي المؤلف- آه... إلى هذا الأفق وصل الشيخ إذن؟ العارف صامت وأخر المعرفة الصمت؟ وما الذي عرفه الشيخ غير ما قاله لي؟ وكيف كان بوسعي أن أعلم الجواب؟!...
وفي هذا الكتاب يقص المؤلف ما حدث لشيخه أثناء معرفته بفقدان ولده الوحيد وصبره وإيمانه على قضاء الله وقدره فكتب يقول في مقدمة الكتاب: (سوبرماني) شيخ من حوالي العقد السادس من العمر، كنت أراه ذاهباً إلى الجامع أو آيباً منه متوكئاً على عصا وهو يرفع رجله اليسرى المشلولة ويضعها على الأرض كما لو كانت خرقة ملفوفة، أما الحدث فهو أن الشيخ كان له ولد وحيد بلغ الصف النهائي في الجامعة وقدم امتحان التخرج، وفي اليوم الذي أعلنت فيه نتائج امتحانات الكلية، وكان اسم ابن الشيخ في رأس القائمة، في صباح هذا اليوم توفي الشاب بالسكتة القلبية عن عمر يناهز الثالثو والعشرين..".
هذه الحكاية يرويها المؤلف من خلال فلسفة التصوف ومن موضوعاتها: الجبر والإختيار والثواب والعقاب، والتأمل، والجهاد(جهاد النفس) وغيرها، وفيها يسجل محاوراته مع شيخه حول علوم الصوفية وأسرارها، وأنوارها والتي لا تنكشف إلَا للإنسان الذي بلغ مرحلة (العارف) وهي المكانة التي كان عليها شيخه فأراد مشاركة القارئ هذه التجربة الإيمانية بكل تفاصيلها...
