لو كنت أستطيع أن أحيط بالشعر العربي عامة لقلت إن هذا الكتاب هو سجل للأسماء النسائية الواردة في الشعر العربي، ولكت الإحاطة بالشعر العربي عامة مسألة صعبة، لذلك فقد أعطيت الكتاب اسم (عرائس الشعر) وما عرائس الشعر إلا النساء اللواتي وردت أسماؤهن في الشعر العربي، أزوجات كن أم بنيات أم حبيبات ملهمات، فكلهن نساء فاتنات ألهمن الشعراء، وكلهن يخطرون في آفاق الشعر كالعرائس.
المراجع الأساسية لهذا الكتاب، من الكتب الأدبية الأهم والأوسع انتشاراً في أوساط الأدباء والمثقفين، ألا وعي الأغاني لأبي الفرج الأصفهاني والآمالي لأبي علي القالي والشعر والشعراء لابن قتيبة إلى ما هنالك من عناوين ذكرت في فهرس المراجع، كما أن دواوين قداني الشعراء كانت أيضاً مرجعاً هاماً، خصوصاً ديوان عمر بن أبي ربيعة الذي ينضح بالسماء النسائية.
ولكم قلبت المؤلفة من صفحات حتى استطاعت أن تجمع هذه الكمية من الأسماء، لقد كان حالها كحال الصياد، فإما أن يأتيه رف العصافير مرة واحدة، وإما أن يدور ويدور طيلة النهار ليحظى بطائر واحد وما من سبيل.
لقد كانت دواوين الشعر كلها مراجعها، قديمها وحديثها كما اعتمدت على ذاكرتها التي خزنت مئات الأبيات. أتنمى أن تستمتع النساء بما قيل في أسمائهن من أبيات، وأن يستمتع الرجال بما قيل في الأسماء النسائية من شعر ينعش يغني ويفيد.
أخيراً أقول: إ، العالم الذي وضعتني فيه هذه السماء النسائية أسماء "عرائس الشعر" هو عالم كالفراديس بغير حدود فهلموا بنا إليه.
