هذه الباقة من الأشعار اخترتها لك أيها القارئ، داعياً إياك إلى ارتياد المنابع الأصلية، أعني دواوين الشعراء أنفسهم، فباقة الأزهار مهما كانت جميلة متقنة الاختيار، لا تمثل البساتين التي قطفت منها، وتبقى النزهة في هذه البساتين، وقطف ما تراه جميلاً رائعاً من أزهارها، والتلذذ بثمارها، هي الأروع والأمتع.
وسميت كتابي هذا "لآلئ الشعر في المديح-أجمل الأبيات وأشهرها- علماً بأن "الشهرة" و"الجمال" يكادان أن يكونا مترادفين في عالم الأدب، فكل بيت مشهور جميل، ومعظم الأبيات الشعرية الجميلة مشهورة.
ومعايير "الشهرة" كثيرة، منها كثرة التمثل بالبيت، أو ترداده على أفواه الناس، أو في الكتب الأدبية أو نص العلماء على شهرته.
أما معايير "الجمال" فأهمها جودة المعنى، ونقاء العبارة، وجودة الأسلوب، وسهولة اللفظ، فقد جهدنا كي نثبت أشهر وأجمل ما في الأدب العربي، مع العلم أن الشعر المشهور أو الجميل الذي قاله العرب يلزمه مجلدات كثيرة لجمعه.
