إن واقعنا التعليمي الراهن يؤدي في معظم الأحيان إلى تدريس مفاهيم او موضوعات أو مناهج منفصلة عن بعضها البعض بحيث تؤدي في النهاية إلى ركام معرفي هائل غير مترابط مع نفسه أو مع البيئة، كل ذلك بهدف إعداد الطلاب لإجتياز إمتحانات معظمها تقف عند الحدود الدنيا للتعلم.
إن هذا الواقع التعليمي أدى إلى تخريج أجيال معظمها يفكر بطريقة خطية منفصلة عن الإطار الكلي المترابط (المنظومي) والذي يصنع النسيج المعرفي المتشابك لأي نشاط إنساني، إننا نريد ونحن في بداية القرن الواحد والعشرين أن نعبر بنظامنا التعليمي من الخطية (Linearity) إلى المنظومية (Systemic).
لذا فالمطلوب نظام تعليمي ينمي مهارات الطلاب لوضع الحلول المثلى والإبداعية لمشاكلهم اليومية ويكون إتجاهات إيجابية نحو التفاعل مع البيئة، كما ينمي هذا النظام الفكر المنظومي لدى الطلاب الذي هو من أهم سمات عصر العولمة.
وعليه، جاءت أهمية هذا الكتاب الذي يسعى إلى تقديم منهجية تصميم التعليم بأسلوب يواكب متطلبات العصر ويخطط للمستقبل، ووفق هذا الإطار توزع الكتاب على سبعة فصول تناولت الموضوعات الآتية: الفصل الأول: التاسيس المعرفي لمفهوم تصميم التعليم/ التدريس، الفصل الثاني: التعريفات والخلفية التاريخية للتصميم التعليمي/ التدريس، الفصل الثالث: أبرز نظريات التعلم ونظريات التعليم تصميم التعلم ذات العلاقة، الفصل الرابع: دراسة موسعة لعمليات تصميم الأساسية، الفصل الخامس: أبرز نماذج تصميم التعليم الاجنبية والعربية الفصل السادس: التدريب على تصميم منظمات التعليم، الفصل السابع: البحث التربوي في مجال تصميم التعليم.
