إن أيّ موضوع تختلف فيه الأقوال والآراء والروايات والأخبار والتفاسير سيكون عرضة للنقاش والبحث والتحقيق، والغاية من ذلك خروج الباحث أو المحقق برأي أو نتيجة تكون وسطاً بين المختلفات أو مغايرةً لها حسب قول الدليل والبرهان، ولكن تبقى تلك الآراء والنتائج الجديدة عبارة عن إحتمالات أو أطروحات خصوصاً إذا كان الموضوع المبحوث من الأمور الغيبية وموضوعنا من هذا النوع.
فلقد وجدنا أن هناك تفاسير وروايات وأحاديث واردة عن أهل بيت العصمة (عليهم السلام) وعن علماء ومفكرين بصدد ما ورد عن (الروح والنفس) جاءت بتعابير وتسميات ومعانٍ مختلفة، فالروح ذكرت فيها بعدة أسماء ومعانٍ ووظائف، وما ذكر فيها عن النفس أكثر من ذلك.
وأن أغلب ما جاء بهذا الصدد مذكور في مصادر المسلمين من الفريقين، فعند العامة وجدت في بعض مصادرهم المعتمدة، مرويّة من قبل أكبر وأشهر علمائهم وهم يُشيرون إليها ويستشهدون بها عند الحاجة، أما ما ورد عن طريق الشيعة الأمامية الإثني عشرية، الجعفرية، فالحال كذلك، فهي موجودة في أغلب مصادرهم المعتمدة ومُستشهد بها من قبل أكبر وأشهر علماء الطائفة من السابقين واللاحقين، كالمجلسي والطوسي والطبرسي والمفيد والمرتضى رضوان الله عليهم وغيرهم من السابقين، وكالطباطبائي والمطهري والحيدري وغيرهم من الإعلام من اللاحقين.
لهذا قام المؤلف بجمع مجمل المضامين التي لها علاقة بهذا الموضوع وتثبيتها ومن ثم النظر والتدقيق فيها وممازجة معانيها ومقاصد أغراضها للخروج برأي وسط من بينها؛ وقد راعى بذلك أولاً: أهمية الإبتعاد عن الروايات التي تنسب للأئمة وفيها ما يناقض البرهان، ثانياً: عدم الركون إلى الكتب غير الموثقة، ثالثاً: يجب البيان أن الخاتم رضي الله عنه لا يعرفه إلا ربه ووارثه، ثم يستطرد بذكر بعض الآيات القرآنية الخاصة بمدح الرسول صلى الله عليه وسلم وبيان صفاته ومكانته.
