تتصاعد الأحداث بوتيرة متدفقة معلنة انكسارات تلد انكسارات ويعم سؤال الفجيعة... مخيفة الإنسان العربي... هل باطل ما فات... باطل ما هو آت. حلم بأن يكون العربي شيئاً مع كلمات أبو القاسم الشابي... إذ الشعب يوماً أراد الحياة... ليتلاشى ذاك الحلم مع نكسة حزيران... لم يتسن لذاك الحلم أن يبلغ ذروته ليعلن أصحابهم وفاته... والراوي صاحب القصة الذي غدا بطل الرواية إنسان منسوج بآلام الفشل العربي المبادئ والمثاليات والشعارات التي كان يحملها في يوم من الأيام لينزاح معها مع النازحين الهاربين مع نكسة حزيران... هو لم يسقط حينها لأن الحلم في أن يكون ذاك المثل العربي ما فتئ يراوده بعد أن التحق بالجناح العسكري للحزب في بيروت... ليعلن بعد حفنة زمن وقبل أن يهيم البطل العنيد ذو الرأي السديد في البراري مكتئباً صارخاً في البرية: يا قوم يا ربعي هودوا إلى الحق... هودوا إلى الطيب من القول... لكن البطل لم يتحمل تحولات العالم ويسقط البطل العنيد عن المنصة... ولكن هل سيسقط رفق دودين آمال وأحلام الإنسان العربي إلى الأبد من خلال أعواد الثقاب؟!!
