في عمله هذا يتناول الدكتور " علي حسين الجابري" البعد الإجتماعي للفلسفة في (الحضارة الإسلامية) في مرحلة صمودها، وهبوطها في محاولة جادة لدراسة الأسس الإجتماعية للعمران البشري.
يقول المؤلف عن عمله هذا "إن هذا التحقيق، للإنجاز العمراني العربي/ الإسلامي. جرى على وفق منهجية – نقدية مقارنة- تنحو منحى تكاملي، هو نتاج تحليل علمي لحركة الحضارة في صمودها، عند توفر عوامل إزدهارها أو هبوطها، عند تراخي عوامل التقدم الإجتماعي على ذات المسرح الحضاري. نعم، الكتاب يتتبع حركة الوعي الإجتماعي ومعطياته التاريخية على مسرح (عربي/ إسلامي) تتفاعل فيه أسباب الحوار الحضاري والثقافي والديني، بين مكونات متنوعة وسمت هذا الإقليممن العالم دون سواه. لذلك جاء هذا الكتاب بمثابة مشروع معرفي لإستقرار معطيات الحضارة في الإقليم (الوسط) بالأمس من أجل إنسان اليوم..."
قسَم المؤلف دراسته إلى ثلاث أبواب جاء( الباب الأول) تحت عنوان العمران الحضاري في عصر السيادة العربية الإسلامية ومنه يطل المؤلف على أبو نصر الفارابي، وصاعد الأندلسي والطرطوشي وإبن أبي الربيع. أما (الباب الثاني) فحمل عنوان العمران البشري في فترة الأفول السياسي تناول فيه المؤلف آراء إبن خلدون والدلجي. وأما (الباب الثالث) والأخير فجاء بعنوان العرب المحدثون والإحياء العمراني المنتظر، وتحدث فيه المؤلف عن محمد الإخباري وتأصيل العمران، ثم وقف عند محمد المقدادي والعمران المنشود، ومحمد سعيد العرفي وقانون ذهاب العمران وعودته وأخيراً عرض لعبد العزيز الدوري والأسس الإقتصادية (الإجتماعية للعمران) في زمننا هذا وصولاً إلى خاتمة الكتاب.
