لم ينل النحو الكوفي نصيبه من الدرس مثل ما ناله النحو البصري، وذلك لأسباب كثيرة، أبرزها أن المحو البصري كان يعتمد في درسه النص القواعد التي يحكمها المنطق وتغلب عليه طردُ القياس والتشديد في تحكيم القاعدة في النص.
في كتابه هذا، يسلط الدكتور كاظم إبراهيم كاظم الضوء على نظرية العامل المستمدة من المعاني والدلالات التي يتضمنها النص في "النحو الكوفي" وهو ما يكون أكثر وضوحاً عن العالم اللغوي الغرّاء في كتابه "معاني القرآن" ، إذ اعتبر المؤلف أن هذا العالم لم ينجر إلى قاعدة تحكمه في معالجته النص، وإن تحقق ذلك في كتابه فكان ينسبه إلى النحويين. فالغراء ينساق إلى الإعراب من خلال تفرعه لدلالة النص، وبهذا يكون قد ربط بين النحو، والمعنى. وهذه المنهجية اتبعها في كتابه الذي نال اهتمام كثير من الدارسين الذين صرفوا جهدهم لدراسة النحو العربي ...".
ولأن الغرّاء كان أحد أعمدة المدرسة الكوفية جاء هذا الكتاب للكشف عن رؤيتها للنحو، حيث قدم المؤلف بحوثاً تناول فيها موضوعات نحوية تمت دراستها من معاني القرآن للغرّاء، واستطاع من خلالها الوقوف على موقف الغرّاء والكوفيين منها، وقد اتسمت هذه الدراسة بالتحليل الموضوعي، وتوضيح القضايا النحوية والأسلوبية التي تضمنتها الموضوعات.
يتألف الكتاب من ستة مباحث جاءت تحت العناوين الرئيسية الآتية: 1- أنماط الإضافة في القرآن، 2- الجملة الشرطية في القرآن، 3- أساليب القسم في القرآن، 4- الإسم الموصول وصلته، 5- الأشتغال في القرآن، 6- الضمير عند الكوفيين.
