يضم هذا الديوان بين دفتيه قصائد من الشعر التقليدي العربي، وأخرى كتبت بالشعر الحر، حافظ الشاعر بهذه القصائد على وحدة الزمن والقافية لمحاكات الأوائل من الشعراء الذين سلكوا هذا النهج. عالجت قصائد هذا الديوان عدة مواضيع أحدهما المنفى والاغتراب عن الوطن بشكليه النفسي والجسدي. أما الحب فهو الموضوع الثاني الذي تطرقت له القصائد في هذا الديوان. وبالنسبة للشاعر هذه القصائد اختلط عنده حب المرأة والرغبة الجامحة لها، بحب الأم والأخت وبالتالي الوطن بكل ما تضمنه هذا الأخير من مرابع وملاعب وصبا وشباب وذكريات.
تميزت من هذا الديوان قصيدتان، ولهما وقع خاص بقلب الشاعر، الأولى قصيدة "خالدة" وهذه المرأة أحبها الشاعر حباً لا أبعاد له ولا نهايات، أما القصيدة الثانية فهي التي سُمي الديوان بها: "حمامات السلطان" أغلب قصائد المجموعة هذه كتبت قبل عشرين عاماً. ولكن هل تجاوزت هذه القصائد محنة الزمن وحافظت على أصالتها؟
