عندما نفذت طبعة كتاب أبحاث في اللغة العربية رأيت أن أنشر الدراسات الصوتية في كتاب منفصل (مع دراسات صوتية أخرى)، على أن أنشر الدراسات غير الصوتية في كتاب آخر، وذلك لتحقيق نوع من الإنسجام بين الموضوعات التي يضمها كل من الكتابين.
وهكذا فإن هذا الكتاب يشمل الدراسات الصوتية التالية:
اللغويون العرب بين الوصف والتفسير.
الصحيح "المشدّد" صحيحان "قصيران" أم صحيح واحد "طويل"؟
العلّة (الحركة) الطويلة علّة واحدة أم علّتان قصيرتان متواليتان؟
بين تقصير العلّة الطويلة وحذف شبه العلّة.
أداة التعريف.
في القلب المكاني ووزن افتعل.
في النبر.
أحوال الكلمات التي تبدأ بصحيحين متواليين.
ألِفات أم همزات.
قواعد النبر في العربية الفصحى.
حركة الفعل الماضي الأجوف.
