تعد " نقط العروس " رسالة نفيسة في تواريخ الخلفاء ألفها إبن حزم في حدود العشرين وأربعمائة للهجرة ، جاءت في هذا الكتاب برواية أبي عبد الله محمد بن فتوح الحميدي الميورقي المحدث الشهير صاحب كتابه جذوة المقتبس ، وهو أحد تلامذة ابن حزم ، وهو ما جعل الدكتور شوقي ضيف يعيد نشرها هذا النص لوثوق روايته ، وقد ترجمها وعلّق عليها الدكتور عدنان محمد آل طعمة .
وبقراءة للرسالة نجد أنها لا تحوي تاريخاً مفصلاً للخلفاء ، وإنما تحوي بعض أخبارهم للخلافة الإسلامية والخلفاء حتى عصر إبن حزم سواء ما اتصل بإقامة نظام الحكم وانتقاله من عصر إلى عصر ، ومن خليفة إلى خليفة بعهد أو مطالبة ، أو ما أصاب هذا النظام من تدهور وفساد ، شهد إبن حزم بعينه جوانب منه في بلده .
وتفيض الرسالة أيضاً في تفاصيل شخصية عديدة حول الخلفاء وأبنائهم ونسائهم ، وحق من تسمّى بالخلافة من غير قريش ومن أراد أن يسمى بها ثم امتنع من مثل ذلك المنصور بن أبي عامر .
كل ذلك يعرضه الراوي في تفصيل ، وقد عني عناية خاصة بالألقاب سواء ألقاب الخلفاء أو الوزراء أو الأمراء ، وكتب كيف نشأت كل مجموع منها ، وأضاف إلى ذلك إحصاءات بديعة من أعمار الخلفاء وأخلاقهم ومن جاهروا منهم بالإنهماك في الملذات ومشائمهم وعُورِهم وذوي السعد منهم وعلمائهم وجهالهم .
