يتناول هذا الكتاب مشروع سبينوزا الفلسفي، بهدف إعطاء فكرة أوضح عن هذا الفيلسوف وحجم إسهامه في تاريخ الفكر الفلسفي والإنساني. من هنا جاءت هذه السيرة التي يقدمها الدكتور "عبد القادر جموسي" للقارىء العربي محاولة لرسم صورة حية للفيلسوف الهولندي باروخ سبينوزا، يتتبع فيها أطوار مساره الفلسفي في علاقتها مع حياته الشخصية، وذلك على قاعدة أن سيرة حياة أي فيلسوف هي بمثابة مفتاح لولوج عالمه واستقبال أفكاره ونظرياته. ولعل القارىء يتبين في هذه السيرة مصدر نشوء العديد من أفكار سبينوزا، من رحم تفاعله وسجالاته مع رجالات عصره، من علماء وفلاسفة أمثال كريستيان هيجنز وروبرت بويل وليبنز.
يركز هذا الكتاب على أهم المحطات التي أثرت في اختيارات الفيلسوف ومواقفه من حياة الطائفة التي احتضنته فانشق عنها، ومن سياسة بلده ومنظومتها الفكرية، التي ساهم في تطويرها، من خلال التنظير الفلسفي والإنخراط في حركات المجتمع المدني ومشاركته في الجدل العام الذي نشطت فيه العديد من الجمعيات المدنية والدينية، التواقة للتحرر من رواسب الفكر القروسطي والمدرسي العتيق.
