يحتوي هذا الكتاب على دراسة لجوانب التأمين القانونية والاقتصادية ومناقشة مستفيضة للآراء الفقهية المعاصرة حوله وترجيح صحة عقوده ما لم تتضمن شروطاً غير مقبولة شرعاً. وبشكل عام تنقسم الدراسة في الكتاب إلى ثلاثة أقسام: القسم الأول وهو عبارة عن بحث قديم قدمه المؤلف في مؤتمر أسبوع الفقه الإسلامي بدمشق عام 138هـ1961م، وتحدث فيه عن عقد التأمين وموقف الشريعة الإسلامية منه، أما القسم الثاني فخصصه للوظائف الاقتصادية والاجتماعية للتأمين ولحكم التأمين في ميزان الشريعة. وهذا البحث قدمه المؤلف في مؤتمر الاقتصاد الإسلامي بمكة المكرمة عام 1396هـ-1976م.
هذا وتضمن القسم الثالث سبعة ملحقات تشتمل على ملاحظات ومناقشات إضافية جديدة من أهمها الملحق الخامس من شبهة الغرر، والملحق السادس عن تناقض من يفرقون بين التأمين التجاري والتأمين التعاوني والملحق السابق عن وجوب التأمين شرعاً في بعض الحالات.
