يهدف هذا الكتاب لتعريف المستثمر العربي بمبادئ وأسس خيارات الأسهم وخيارات مؤشرات الأسهم كوسيلة من وسائل الاستثمار الحديثة، حيث أن التعامل بهذه الخيارات، لم ينتشر بعد انتشار التعامل في الأسهم وخاصة في الآونة الأخيرة حيث افتتحت بورصات محلية للأسهم في عدد من الدول العربية.
تعتبر الخيارات من أحدث وسائل الاستثمار التي دخلت الأسواق المالية العالمية وخاصة تلك في الولايات المتحدة الأمريكية، والتعامل بها لإزال في بداية الطريق إذا ما قورن بالتعامل بالأسهم. فأول بورصة للخيارات في الولايات المتحدة الأمريكية افتتحت في مدينة شيكاغو في عام 1973م، أي قبل عشرين سنة، في حين أن عمر التعامل بالأسهم جاوز المائة والسبعين سنة، لأن أول بورصة للتعامل بالأسهم في مدينة نيويورك تم افتتاحها في عام 1817م.
بالإضافة إلى خيارات الأسهم ومؤشراتها التي يعالجها هذا الكتاب هناك أنواع أخرى كخيارات المعادن الثمنية وغير الثمينة وخيارات العملات وغيرها والتي تبحث عادة مع مواضيع التجارة الآجلة.
تتميز خيارات الأسهم ومؤشراتها بالمرونة لأنها تتيح الفرصة للمستثمرين في تطبيق استراتيجيات متباينة، فهي تلبي متطلبات المستثمرين المضاربين الذين لا يهابون المجازفة في سبيل الوصول إلى أرباح مرتفعة جداً، كما ويستخدمها المستثمرون المحافظون إما لتحقيق عائد جيد يتناسب مع درجة مخاطرة محدودة أو لحماية محفظة أسهم يملكونها من خطر إنخفاض الأسعار.
بما أن الكتاب موجه بالدرجة الأولى للمستثمر العربي الفرد وليس للمختصين، لذا فقد بذل المؤلف قصارى جهده لعرض المواضيع بشكل مبسط مع دعم الشرح بالأمثلة زيادة بالإيضاح.
