إذا كان كثير من المسلمين لا يفهمون الإسلام على حقيقته، وإذا كان الذين يفهمونه لا يطبقونه، فلا يستغرب ألا يفهم غير المسلمين الإسلام، ويعادونه، لأن الإنسان عدو ما يجهل، والصورة التي تقدمها وسائل الدعاية والإعلام للإسلام صورة مشوهة يصوغها في معظم الأحيان أعداء الإسلام لأغراض خاصة بهم. ولهذا يجد المسلمون أنفسهم في موقع الدفاع دائماً، ولا يعرفون من أين تأتي السهام، في عصر تداعي الأعداء على الإسلام وتجمعهم.
والإسلام لا يحتاج إلى من يدافع عنه. المسلمون هم الذين يحتاجون إلى الدفاع عن أنفسهم. هم بحاجة إلى فهم الإسلام فهماً صحيحاً، وتطبيقه تطبيقاً سليماً، ونقله إلى الآخرين نقلاً صحيحاً، فليس المطلوب أن يكون البشر بعقل واحد ومفهوم واحد. المطلوب أن يتعايشوا على اختلافاتهم، ويعمروا الأرض ويستثمروها بأمن وسلام، ومن دون تخريب هذا الكوكب الجميل الذي منحه الله خلقه.
في هذا الكتاب يحاول المؤلف أن يبين نظرة الإسلام إلى الآخر والمختلف، وما يأمر به الدين في التعامل والتعاون، تحت عناوين منها: الإسلام والتعددية- قبول الآخر في الإسلام- الدولة الوطنية والتنوع من منظور إسلامي- الإشكالية والفهم الملتبس...
