Les ateliers photographiques de Ghazir e de Beyrouth representent un jalon fondamental de l'histoire de l culture et de la photographie au Liban. Dans des situations et des directions differentes des ateliers commerciaux de l'epoque, ils presentent un temoignage unique de la lecture d'un pays, de son histoire culturelle et de ses identites communautaires.
L'atelier de Beyrouth regroupe la production photographique des Jesuites du Liban et de leurs assistants libanais entre 1848 et 1914 et presente 298 epreuces d'un corpus qui en comptait 6 714 a l'inventaire de 1914.
'Atelier s.j. Beirout' au dos des epreuves ou des cartons de montage, marque a la fouis la decision d'anonymat mais aussi l'orientation d'un atelier don’t l'activite, peut-etre parcellaire entre 1848 et 1884, s'intensifie a partir de 1885 pour prendre en charge tout le champ du reel et de la question de l'identite.
