"أبراج تعانق السحاب" كتاب يبحث في تطور "فن العمارة" عبر حقب التاريخ المختلفة بفعل الإرادة الإنسانية، التي عبر عنها الفرد أو الجماعة. ويسلط الضوء على تطور فن العمارة منذ الخمسينات ويستشهد بـ حسن حذفي في كتابته عن عمارة مصرية حديثة وكيف أن الخطاب القومي في عهد جمال عبد الناصر قد غير النمط السائد في مصر في فن العمارة، وبعدها عاد ليتكلم عن البيت المفتوح للسماء والمغلق على الصحراء القاحلة، ثم تغير الخطاب في الثمانينيات مع المد الإسلامي وطفرة البترول وصار خطاب حسن فتحي عن عمارته التقليدية إسلامياً.
أما اليوم مع انتشار وسائل الإعلام المرئي من محطات تلفزة ومواقع انترنت فقد راجت التسميات القطرية للعمارة، فهناك في الأدبيات المعاصرة وفي التعريف المهني عمارة لبنانية وعمارة أردنية وعمارة إماراتية.
يستعرض الكاتب في كتابه أيضاً آراءاً ونظريات ومدارس فلسفية في هندسة العمارة مثل المهندس المعماري الفرنسي جان نوفيل، والإسباني أنطوني غاودي وغيرهم، يتضمن الكتاب أيضاً عرضاً للأبراج التي قامت عليها الحضارات القديمة في التاريخ مثل برج إيفل وصولاً إلى أبراج استحدثت في العصر الحالي مثل أبراج الكويت وبرج القاهرة، وبرج جسر لندن ومبنى الإمباير ستيت في أمريكا، وبرج سي إن أعلى أبراج العالم قاطبة في مدينة نورنتو الكندية.
