هذا الكتاب هو بمثابة قراءة خاصة للأزمة السياسية التي شهدتها اليمن والتي اندلعت في صورتها في التاسع عشر من شهر آب-أغسطس1993، وتوجت بحرب الشهرين التي انتهت في السابع من تموز-يوليو1994، بانتصار القوات الشمالية وخروج القيادة الجنوبية وكوادرها إلى خارج البلاد.
لقد أثبتت هذه الحرب أن انتصار مشروع "القبيلة" على مشروع التحديث في اليمن لا يعتبر في كل الأحوال نهاية التاريخ، ولا المطاف الأخير لبلدٍ يولد المفاجأة تلو الأخرى منذ قرابة ثلاثين عاماً حتى الآن. إن الأمانة العلمية والأخلاقية تفرض إبراز الحقائق، التي يتحدث عنها هذا الكتاب، عسى أن تصل القارئ العربي واضحة وجلية لا تشوبها أية شائبة.
