يتناول هذا الكتاب سيرة حياة "أنطون سعادة"، الزعيم الأكثر حداثة والمفكر السياسي الأكثر تطلعاً إلى المستقبل في الشرق الأدنى في القرن العشرين، قاد سعادة حياة حافلة بالأحداث حيث تجلت قدرته في ميادين واسعة من الحياة القومية.
تطرَّق إلى قضايا الإصلاح الإجتماعي، إعادة البناء السياسي، الإبتكار الأدبي، التحليل التاريخي، والخطاب الفلسفي، وكل هذه مع هاجس واحد هو الحداثة.
كانت إهتماماته متنوعة، ثقافته فائقة، مقاربته لشؤون الأمّة الكبرى نابضة بالحياة، وإلتزامه بقضية شعبه لا يترعزع، كان رجلاً واسع الآفاق، لكنه كان أيضاً يجالد صبوراً لأجل التفاصيل الصغيرة المهمة، بدأ حركة نهضة قومية وترك إرثاً فكرياً كبيراً، ولكن حتى الآن لم تصدر للأسف سيرة تنجح في رسم الجوانب المتنوعة من حياته.
لقد لوّن إستشهاد "انطون سعادة البطولي" عام 1949 فهم حياته وقضيته، وقد نظر وفقاؤه إلى تفاصيل حياته كمسيرة حتمية نحو الشهادة ورسموا حياة القائد الشهيد بألوان فائقة البطولية، أما خصومه فقد ابتعدوا غالباً عن أية محاولة حقيقية لفهم أو تقييم حياته مفضلين الإرتكان إلى إتهامات وأحقاد حزبية قديمة وبالية.
هدفنا في العمل الحالي هو البحث عن سعادة الإنسان الذي يقف وراء سعاده الشهيد، وسعادة المفكر وراء سعادة البطل، وسعادة الفيلسوف وراء سعادة الزعيم السياسي، لكن دون إهمال سعادة الزعيم والبطل والشهيد.
يتناول هذا المجلد الأول شباب "أنطون سعادة"، سوف تتناول مجلدات مقبلة فترات لاحقة في حياته.
