لقد عانى الطلبة، وبخاصة في مجال علم الإجتماع من شحة الكتب المنهجية المتداولة، وعانوا كذلك من شحة ما يشاركهم به الأساتذة والتدريسيون الجامعيون على إختلافهم، ليس بقصدٍ مسبق وإنمّا بسبب الطبيعة المقيّدة لنظام المحاضرة الأكاديمية التي لا تسمح بتزويد الطالب إلا بقدرٍ محدود من المعلومات والأفكار الأساسية.
أضف إلى ذلك أنّ التجارب الموضوعية تظهر بما لا يدع مجالاً للشك في أنّ المحاضرة التقليدية مهما تميزت وتألقت، فإنّها لا تغني عن المادة العلمية المكتوبة والموثقة التي تستقر في كتاب أو ملزمة يمكن تناولها والعودة إليهما وقتما يشاء الطالب والقارئ المستزيد.
