هذه الرواية تنطوي على الحب الأكبر حب الإنسان لتراب وطنه، حبه لمسقط رأسه، حبه لمطارح هواه وذكريات فؤاده، وإليك وحداً من مقاطع كثيرة أمثاله تتخلل هذه الرواية:
"هناك إذا جلست تحت التينة في ليلة مكوكبة، عضك الجوع إلى الحب، الذي ينثر في هذا الإطار المسحور ثماره دانية القطوف، ويبيح أقبيته للجميع. فالقمر الذي يعكس وجه حسناء، النجمة شامة على خدها، والصفصافة مروحة تهوي بها، الذي يسهر على الدوالي ككلب يحرس خرافة، يأمرها أن تنام، ولا تأتي بنأمة، والذي يفرش من التربة الحمراء سجاد المخمل النبيذي تحت أقدام العشاق، وأشجار التين التي تنبسط على الهضاب كمظلات حنونة، والنجوم التي تنطفئ كشموع كتومة في الهزيع الأخيرة من ليلة غرام، متورعة عن إزعاج أحد بحضورها، كلها تتعهد أهل الصبابة بالرعاية، تعدهم بالحماية والأمان، وتأخذ كامل المسؤولية على عاتقها وكأنها تحرضهم: انصرفوا انتم إلى شؤون الهوى، وما عليكم أنا أتكفل بالباقي".
