قضية الإمامة العامة وقيادة الأمة من أكثر القضايا مسامها بحياة الشعوب، وأشدها ارتباطاً بمعاناتهم وأفهم واستقرارهم وانتظام مصالحهم، وقد بلغ الاختلاف من حولها حدّاً لم يبلغه في سواها. حول هذه المسألة يأتي البحث في هذا الكتاب في محاولة لحل هذه المشكلة على أساس من صدق الإيمان ودقة العلم والإخلاص، لاتخاذ ذلك منهجاً يساعد على تحقيق التقارب الفكري بين المسلمين وتوحيد صفوفهم. وقد حاول المؤلف معالجة هذه المسألة من خلال منهج النص في الإمامة وهو أحد المناهج المطروحة والذي يشكل الأساس الذي يتبنى عليه التشيع، ويتفرع عنه الصديد من الأمور التي تميز هذا الاتجاه فقهاً واعتقاداً.
ولهذا الفرض يعالج المؤلف واحداً من الأدلة التي يستدل بها أصحاب منهج النص على مذهبهم في الامامة وهو حديث "الثقلين" الذي رواه عن الرسول (صلى الله عليه وسلم) جمع كبير من المحدثين وأصحاب المصنفات.
