يعرف الجهاز المصرفي لبلد ما بالمؤسسات المصرفية والأنظمة والقوانين التي تعمل في ظلها هذه المؤسسات، ومن هنا كان منطلق هذا الكتاب بأقسامه الأربعة فهو يعالج في القسم الأول منه البنوك التجارية ويقدم لمحة عامة عنها ويشرح المواضيع المتعلقة بها: خلق النقود، القوائم المالية للبنك التجاري، مصادر تمويل البنك التجاري، تنمية وإدارة مصادر التمويل، أسس تشغيل موارد البنك التجاري، اشتراك البنوك التجارية في تمويل خطط التنمية الاقتصادية، موجودات أو أشكال توظيفات أموال البنك التجاري، بعض وظائف البنك التجاري الحديثة، وأخيراً النواحي الادارية في البنك التجاري.
أما القسم الثاني فيعالج البنوك المركزية حيث يقدم لمحة عامة عنها ثم يعالج دورها التنظيمي الرقابي في البلدان المتقدمة ودورها المزدوج التنظيمي الرقابي والتطويري التنموي في البلدان النامية ثم يتطرق إلى موضوع البنك المركزي الأردني: ميزانيته وتنظيمة الاداري.
أما القسم الثالث من الكتاب فيعالج موضوع مؤسسات الإقراض المتخصصة فيتطرق إلى شرح ماهيتها وطبيعة الدور الذي تلعبه في الاقتصاد وطرق تمويلها واستخدامات الأموال فيها ثم يستعرض الموجود من هذه البنوك في الأردن فيبدأ بمؤسسة الإقراض الزراعي فبنك الإنماء الصناعي، فبنك الاسكان، فمؤسسات الإقراض المتخصصة الأخرى كالبنك التعاوني، وبنك تنمية المدن والقرى والبنك الاسلامي الأردني للتمويل والاستثمار.
وأما القسم الرابع فيعالج موضوع التحليل المالي للبنك التجاري بالإضافة إلى إدارة محافظ الأوراق المالية من قبل البنوك من حيث طبيعة الاستثمار في الاوراق المالية وإدارة محفظة الأوراق المالية. وحرصاً من المؤلفان على توضيح بعض الجوانب النظرية فقد تم إضافة أمثلة رقمية وحلول نموذجية لها حيثما أمكن لإرشاد الطالب ومساعدته على فهم كافة الجوانب المتعلقة بهذه المادة.
