يؤرخ هذا الكتاب لدولة المرابطين التي قامت في المغرب والأندلس في عهد يوسف بن تاشفين أمير المرابطين، وذلك في تمهيد وستة فصول، تحدث التمهيد عن قبيلة يوسف بن تاشفين وحياتها السياسية والاقتصادية والاجتماعية والدينية واعتناقها مبادئ ابن ياسين، وتأسيس (الرباط) النواة الجهادية الأولى لأحياء الإسلام في المغرب، وفصلت المعارك التي خاضها المرابطون بعد أن استكملوا قوتهم حتى استشهاد الإمام ابن ياسين.
والفصل الأول أرخ لحياة الأمير يوسف بن تاشفين الاجتماعية وتدرجه في المسؤولية بدءاً من قيادة الجيش المرابطي إلى النيابة على المغرب وارتقائه سدة الإمارة حتى فتح المغرب. وخصص الفصل الثاني لدوافع عبور الأمير يوسف إلى الأندلس فبين أوضاعها في ظل ملوك الطوائف. وكان الفصل الثالث مثيراً كشف عن معركة الزلاقة معركة الفتح الثاني وقد رسمت حكم الأندلس مدة أربعة قرون وصارت حداً فاصلاً في التاريخ الإسلامي وهي تكاد تكون مجهولة في المشرق ولا يعرف عنها إلا القليل بينما هي غنية بالتضحيات الجسام والفكر العسكري الخلاق الذي امتاز به يوسف.
ووصف الفصل الرابع حال الأندلس بعد الزلاقة وتآمر حكامها وخيانتهم خصوصاً في أثناء حملة لييط وهي عوامل دفعت بالأمير يوسف إلى اتخاذ قرار بضم الأندلس إلى الدولة المرابطية إنقاذا لها من الضياع المحتم وقد لعب الفقهاء دوراً بارزاً في تحريض يوسف على إسقاط حكامهم المتآمرين المتخاذلين وهذا هو موضوع الفصل الرابع.
أما الفصل الخامس فتضمن العمليات العسكرية التي انتهت بضم الأندلس إلى الدولة المرابطية وخاض المرابطون معارك تعتبر ثانية الزلاقة مثل معركة (حصن المدور) قرب اشبيلية. وقد أضحت الأندلس جزءاً من دولة الأمير يوسف فاهتم بتنظيمها وبرعاية شؤونها حتى إنه أخذ البيعة لخليفته علي في قرطبة ليظهر للأندلسيين مكانة بلادهم في نفسه. وانتهى هذا الفصل مع غروب شمس الأمير عن الحياة بعد أن عمر قرناً من الزمن.
والفصل السادس والأخير يكشف أعمال يوسف الحضارية تخطيطاً وتنظيماً وبناءً في الحقول العسكرية والاقتصادية والمالية مرتكزة إلى أحكام الشرع الإسلامي.
