كيف حكم البربر الأندلس؟ تلك قصة طويلة لدولتين إمبراطوريتين قامتا في المغرب هدمت ثانيتهما الأولى، سمت أولى الدولتين نفسها دولة المرابطين، أما الثانية فسمت نفسها دولة الموحدين، هذه القصة الطويلة هي موضوع هذا الكتاب الممتاز الذي ترجمه مؤرخ الأندلس الأكبر دون نظير له على المستوى العربي العلامة "محمد عبد الله عنان".
والأهمية البالغة لهذا الكتاب ترجع لكون مؤلفه مطلعاً على المصادر الإسبانية وغيرها من المصادر الأوروبية لأحداث الأندلس بأقسامه الثلاثة، وارتباطهما الوثيق وتداخلها، والمؤلف أيضاً ينتمي لجيل من المستشرقين بدأ يستعين بالمصادر العربية بجانب المصادر الإسبانية والأوروبية، لكن حتى وقت صدور الكتاب (1837) لم تكن معظم تلك المصادر قد خرجت للنور، رغم ما بذله المؤلف من جهد للاطلاع على مخطوطات كلفته أن يجوب مصر وبعض البلاد العربية الأخرى وغيرها من مظان وجود مخطوطات عربية تكشف عن تاريخ تلك الحقبة.
