تعرَّض العالم الإسلامي في القرن الخامس الهجري لهجمتين صلبيتين شرستين، استهدفت الأولى (بلاد الشام) واستهدفت الثانية (بلاد الأندلس).
وعاشت هاتان الهجمتان الفساد في الأرض لا يردعها خلق ولا دين، معتمدة على سياسة القوة والمخادعة والإبتزاز، وحكّام العالم الإسلامي مشغولون بتناحرهم وتخاذلهم وإنغماسهم بحياة اللهو والترف والمجون، وتغلبيهم مصالحهم الشخصية الرخيصة على المصلحة المصيرية لأمتهم، بل استعان بعضهم بالمحتل ضدَّ أخيه متناسياً رابطة الدين والدم.
بدأت الصحوة الإسلامية يقودها في بلاد الشام يوسف بن أيوب صلاح الدين الأيوبي (532- 500هـ)، وكان كلٌّ منهما مثالاً للحاكم العادل الزاهد الورع الشجاع الصادق، المخلص الحازم، فاقتدى بهما أبناء الأمة، وبدأت عملية البناء والتحرير، فتحوّلت الفرقة إلى وحدة، والضعف إلى قوة، والتخاذل إلى تناصر، والظلم إلى عدل، والجاهلية إلى إيمان، ثم تتوَّجت هذه الجهود المباركة بمعركتي حطين في فلسطين، والزلاَّقة في الأندلس، تلك المعركتان الظافرتان اللتان كانتا نقطة تحوُّل عظيم في التاريخ الإسلامي.
وهذا الكتاب يتتبع (التجربة المغربية) خطوة خطوة، من بداية دعوة المرابطين، إلى توحيد المغرب تحت راية التوحيد، إلى إشاعة العدل بين الرعية، إلى إنقاذ الأندلس من بين براثن الصليبيين، يقف عند كلِّ حدث محلِّلاً ومعلِّلاً، يربط الحاضر بالماضي، والتطبيق بالمبدأ.
