كان الاتجاه العلمي السائد في عصور التأليف الإسلامي الأولى هو استيعاب الشامل لكل ما قيل وروي في الموضوع، فكانت كتب المؤلفين في التفسير والحديث والسيرة والتاريخ أشبه بموسوعات علمية.
وإن كانت لهذا الاتجاه والأسلوب الشائع فوائد أعظمها صيانة هذه الثورة العلمية من الضياع، وتمكين القارئ أن اختيار ما هو أوفق وأقرب إلى ذوقه فقد أحدث مشكلة وهي أن الطالب المبتدئ والمتوسط يحار في اختيار أقرب الأقوال الصواب ويتشتت ذهنه فلا يرسخ فيه قول واحد ويجد نفسه في غابة ملتفة من الأقوال والآراء والمذاهب، ولذلك مال أستاذ التفسير بكلية الشريعة والدراسات الإسلامية، "محمد علي الصابوني" إلى تأليف كتابه الثمين الذي بين يدينا مضمناً أيام خلاصة ما قاله أئمة المفسرين ليسهل فهمه على طلبة العلم بأسلوب مبسط وعبارات وميسرة جيدة، كما اجتهد من اختيار أصح الأقوال وأرجحها في تفسير كتاب الله وجمع في هذا التفسير بين المأثور والمعقول بأسلوب واضح، وطريقة حديثة سهلة، يذكر بين يدي السورة خلاصة للمقاصد الأساسية لها، يوضح معاني الكلمات وبيان استقامتها، والمناسبة بين الآيات السابقة والآيات اللاحقة، ويبين السبب الذي نزلت من أجله الآيات، ويبدأ بتفسير الآيات دون وجوه الإعراب، ويذكر الفوائد التي لها علاقة بالآيات والمستنبطة منها، ويوضح بيان الصور البيانية والنكات البلاغية.
