تمكِّننا دراسة تاريخ فن العمليات من كشف ومعرفة القوانين الموضوعية، التي تحدد تطور طرائق خوض الأعمال القتالية.
يتطور فن الحرب ويترقى بإستمرار، تتطور حتى مبادئه الأساسية التي تحافظ على وظيفته عموماً لمدة طويلة جداً، فمثلاً مبدأ التوزيع غير المتساوي للقوى في الجبهة، يجب أن يتحقق في الحياة بصورة بديعة، بما يتطابق مع الظروف التاريخية الحقيقية والموقف.
لذلك، يتعين على الضباط الأمراء والقادة، في كافة المستويات، أن يتفهموا بإستمرار أنه يجب ألاَّ يألفوا حل مهماتهم بأساليب اليوم الجديدة، إذا لم تفتح خبرة الأمس عيونهم على عدم صحة الطرائق القديمة في العمل.
