"كتاب الشعر" كلام حول الكلام الشعري، يتلمس هذا الكلام في سبع قراءات. افتتحها بقراءة البدايات عندما طرح جمهرة الشعراء الأوائل مفهومهم للشعر في مقولهم الشعري، وكان هذا المقول أساس التحديد المعرفي للشعر عند النقاد العرب القدامي، ثم يتلو المفتتح ست قراءات لاحقت ستة شعراء: محمود درويش، سعاد الصباح، محمد عفيفي مطر، عبد العزيز المقالح، محمد إبراهيم أبو سنة، أحمد الشهاوي-فالبدايات كانت مبشرة بالآتي مؤكدة أننا ما زلنا نعيش زمن الشعر.
