يقول الدكتور خالد إرن عن الكتاب:
إن عهد السلطان عبدالحميد الثاني مناسب بشكل خاص للدراسة كأرضية للجغرافيا السياسية الحالية للشرق الأوسط وأوربا الشرقية، فبعض أسباب المشاكل التي تواجه العالم الإسلامي اليوم تعود بجذورها على الأقل إلى القرن التاسع عشر حين وجدت الدولة العثمانية نفسها في خضم المنافسة بين القوى الكبرى من أجل الأسواق والموارد الجديدة في الشرق. وبسبب جهوده الحثيثة لانتهاج استراتيجية عالمية للجامعة الإسلامية، برز السلطان عبدالحميد الثاني كأكثر شخصية مثيرة للجدل بين سلاطين آل عثمان، وكُتب عنه الكثير من الدراسات السلبية والازدرائية التي استمرت في الصدور، إلا أن الكثير من الكتابات المنحازة وغير الموضوعية عن السلطان عبدالحميد وسياسة الجامعة الإسلامية أخذت تحلّ محلها في العقود الأخيرة دراسات متوازنة وأكثر موضوعية، ساهمت في إبراز صورة أكثر واقعية عن السلطان والتطورات التي حدثت في عهده. إنني أعتقد أن هذا الكتاب في موضوعه واستشرافه واعتماده على مصادر غير منشورة بالإنكليزية والعربية والتركية سيضيف نظرة طازجة إلى ما هو موجود من دراسات عن السلطان عبدالحميد والجامعة الإسلامية والتاريخ المعاصر…
