في يوم بلوغها السابعة عشرة من العمر، سن الرشد، خرجت جولييت من المنزل ولما تشرق الشمس. خرجت لأول مرة بلا اسئذان. تجاوزت الشوارع المقفرة إلى حديقة كانتللان التي كانت بحيرتها ما تزال مغطاة بضباب الصباح الساحر. إنها تبحث عن طالعها في يومها الأول.
وبدءاً من هذا اليوم تروي جولييت مرحلة شبابها الأولى.
فتاة جريئة تريد الحياة بغنج وقوة ولكن أيضاً باتزان. بشاعرية تقدّم رفيقاتها (شلتها) وآمالهن وتطلعاتهن للحياة.
وحين تحكي عن رفيقتها جامين، الرقيقة كتويجات الزهور وأنسام الروح، وكيف اختطفها الموت فجأة، تجعلنا نسبح في عالم روحي آسر.
ومع دخولها لأول مرة مملكة الحب نسمع رقصات قلبها الطروب. وما أن تبدو النذر الأولى لنهاية الحب التي لا تخطر على بال حتى نجد أنفسنا نتابع بقلق إرتعاشات قلبها لحظة بلحظة كي نعرف وجهته.
جولييت الغضة كزهرة لحظة تفلتها من أكمام براعمها، تختزن أحزانها وتكتمها عن أمهات ذات الستة والثلاثين عاماً والتي كانت قد ترملت باكراً. تصير أماً حاذية لأمها. تهيء لها سبل ارتشاف السعادة في الحب قبل أن يفوت الأوان. وبدهشة نسمع عذرها في الرحيل بعيداً كي لا تعكر صفو سعادة أمها.
جولييت العاشقة، جولييت الرفيقة والإبنة المتفانية، درس رائع لحياة حاضرة متوحشة.
