تدور أحداث الرواية في الغرب الأمريكي، على أراضي ولاية (يوتاه) عندما تزهر نباتات المريمية تكتسي سهول الولاية بلون البنفسج.
تمتلك (جين) مزرعة كبيرة لتربية الماشية في هذه الولاية، إلا أن الغرب الأمريكي لا يعترف إلا بالأقوياء، مما جعلها تواجه العديد من الأعداء الطامعين فيها وفي ثروتها.
يحاول أعداء جين إستغلال إنغلاق سكان الولاية على أنفسهم وعدم ترحيبهم بالغرباء لمحاربة جين وفرسانها.
ما قصة الرجل الضخم والخطير (لسايتر) المسلح دائماً ولماذا جاء من (تكساس) إلى (يوتاه)؟.
ماذا يوجد خلف الشلال الكبير وأين يخبأ اللصوص قطعان الماشية؟... سيجد (لسايتر) من خطف أخته ويقتص منه، كما وسيجد ابنتها.
سيجد فنترز فتاة أحلامه والذهب الذي جاء من (إلينوي) يبحث عنه... أما (جين) و(لسايتر) فرغم أعدائهما الكثر سيعرفان طعم الحب والسعادة في واديهما المدهش، وحدهما في جنتهما.
