هذا الكتاب "الأمثال العربية ومصادرها في التراث" لا يحتاج إلى تقديم، فقد قدَّمه المؤلف نفسه كأفضل ما يكون التقديم، حين ساق في تقديمه للطبعتين الأولى (1982) والثانية (1992) عرضاً وافياً ومبسطاً لأبواب وفصول الكتاب، مما يسهّل على القارئ مطالعته ويهوِّن عليه فمه وإستيعابه.
وإذا كان لي أن أقول كلمة في هذا الكتاب القيِّم، فيكفي مؤلفه الصديق محمد أبو صوفة أنه تناول موضوعاً يحتل مكانة بارزة في تراثنا العربي... ذلك أن "المثل" كما يقول الفلاسفة والحكماء هو أعلى درجات البلاغة، يمتاز بالإيجاز وجزالة اللفظ ودقة المعنى، علاوة على أنه خلاصة تجارب الحياة عبر السنين.
ثم إن معرفتي الشخصية بالمؤلف الأستاذ أبو صوفة من خلال مساهماته في الكتابة في صحيفة "الرأي" لسنوات طويلة، تزيد من قناعتي في أن هذا الإنجاز - الكتاب - جاء على درجة عالية من الدقة، هياتها مثابرة المؤلف... وجلده في البحث والتقصي في بطون الكتب وفي مخطوطات التراث ليصل إلى ما يريد ويبتغي، وقد عرفت هذه الخواص في المؤلف من خلال موضوعاته التي تنشرها "الرأي" والتي يغلب عليها طابع التفرد والتقصي والإتيان دائماً بما هو جديد وغريب، إنْ في المعلومة، أو الصورة، أو الوثيقة.
