تواجهُ المحُقِّقَ صعوبةٌ بالغة حين تكونُ المخطوطة فريدةً من جهةٍ، وغفلاً من عنوانِها واسم مؤلفها من جهةٍ أخرى، فلا بُدَّ آنذاكَ من البحثِ عن الدَّليل العقليّ والدّليل النقليّ لإثباتِ عنوانِ المخطوطِ الضّائعِ واسم مؤلفِهِ المجهول.
ففي دار الكتبِ المصريّة مخطوطٌ فريدٌ محفوظ برقم 2281 تاريخ تيمور، فُقِدت منه صفحةُ عنوانِهِ والصَّفحة الأولى من خطبة مؤلفِهِ، فضاعَ بذلك عنوانُ الكتابِ واسمُ مؤلفِهِ معاً، وقد وهمَ بعضُ مفهرسي دار الكتب فسمّوا الكتاب "تراجم الشّعراء"، ونحلوهُ إلى الثعالبيّ.
إنَّ دراسةَ النصِّ من الدّاخل كانت تنفي نسبةَ الكتابِ إلى الثعالبيّ فقد وَرَدَ في المخطوطِ شِعرٌ لابن منير الطّرابلسيّ المتوفى سنة 548هـ، والثعالبيّ توفي سنة 429هـ، وفيهِ شِعرٌ في مدح عائلة الدَّواميّ، وهي أُسرةٌ اشتُهرتْ في أواخر القرن السّادس وأوائل القرن السّابع الهجريين.
وَوَرَدَتْ في النَّصِّ عبارةٌ تدلُّ على أنَّهُ صُنِّفَ أيّامَ المستنصر باللهِ العبّاسيّ الذي وليَ الخلافةَ سنة 623هـ، وهي: "وأنا أقولُ: قاتلهُ اللهُ، لو شاهدَ هذهِ الأيامَ المُستنصريّة".
فلا وجهَ إذنْ لنسبةِ هذا المخطوطِ إلى الثعالبيّ، فهو مُصنَّفٌ بعدَ وفاتِهِ بقرنَين، وبدأتْ رحلةُ محُقِّقِ الكتاب الأستاذ شاكر العاشور وراءَ اسم المخطوطِ واسمِ مُصَنِّفِه، التي استمرَّتْ عشر سنواتٍ، وانتهت بالتّوفيق والنَّجاح التّامّين.
