فكما الثنائية في الخير والشر، في الحياة والموت، في الحسن والسيء... فالثنائية كذلك في سيرة المرأة، بموازاة المتعة واللذة واللهو، هناك الوفاء والتضحية والصبر، والصدق ونبل العاطفة، في كتابنا هذا شواهد على تلك القيم، وفي حكايانا هذه أدلة على تلك الشيم والسجايا.
فهاهي سعدى المرأة المغلوبة على أمرها، تزهد في عز معاوية وسلطانه، ولا تغريها قصوره وأمواله ولا جاهه، كما لم يغرها من قبل سلطان وإليه مروان بن الحكم وصولته وجبروته، ورفضت أن يتزوجها كل منهما، لتبقى وفية لزوجها، المتواضع في حسبه ونسبه، الصابر على سوء واقعه وشظف عيشه... وفاءً لصحبة قديمة تنعمت معه خلالها في السراء، وآثرت الصبر معه في الضراء.
وهذه زوجة "فيروز" غلام الملك كذلك، لم ينل الملك من وفائها لزوجها عندما أرسله في مهمة إلى بلاد بعيدة ليقضي وطره من تلك الزوجة الوفية.
"خولة بنت منظور" كذلك، أعجب بها عبد الملك بن مروان إلى حد أن قتل زوجها ليتزوجها، فما كان منها إلا كسرت أسنانها لكي ينفر منها، حرصاً على وفائها لزوجها.
هناك الجارية التي ظلت تتبرج لزوجها بأزياء كان يحب أن يراها بها، وتذهب إلى قبره تؤنس وحشته هناك، ثم أنها تشهق وتموت عندما تسمع أن أهلها خطبوها إلى الرشيد.
أما "الرميصاء" أم سليم، التي توفي ابنها في غياب زوجها وحضر أثناء الوفاة، فلم تشأ أن تفاجئه بخبر وفاة ابنه وهو آت للتو من سفره، وإنما هيأت له إفطاره، وتصنعت له حتى أصاب حاجته وقضى وطره، ومن ثم أخبرته بأسلوب رصين ونباهة وذكاء، فلم يكن لخبرها صدمة عليه أو مفاجأة.
وعن الأخت، تلك هي "الولهى"، توازن بين مشاعرها، وتؤثر أخاها على زوجها وولدها، يقيناً منها أن الزوج موجود والابن مولود، أما الأخ فإذا ذهب لا يعود.
