لما كان القرآن الكريم هو كتاب الله، الذي لا يأتيه الباطل من بين يديه ولا من خلفه، وهو الكتاب الذي جعله الله نوراً للعالمين، كان لزاماً على كل مسلم ومسلمة إذا أراد الفلاح في الدنيا والآخرة أن يعمل به، ويطبق أحكامه ويتلوه أثناء الليل وأطراف النهار، وإذا فهم شيئا جديداً من كتاب الله أن يوصله إلى غيره من المسلمين، وهذا الأمر سهل، على من يتكلم اللغة العربية التي نزل بها القرآن الكريم، ولكن من لا يتعلم العربية يصعب عليه فهمه والاستفادة منه كما ينبغي. لذلك كان من الأهمية الكبرى ترجمة معاني القرآن الكريم إلى اللغات الأجنبية، فكان هذا العمل ليسد حاجة الناطقين باللغة الإنكليزية في فهم معاني القرآن الكريم، وجاءت الترجمة سهلة واضحة يفهمها الجميع دون الرجوع إلى القواميس، تجنب المترجم فيها الكلمات الغريبة والتراكيب المعقدة. ومن الإخلال بمعاني الآيات يجب التنويه إلى أن هذه الترجمة هي على المستوى المطلوب إذ جمعت بين دقة المعنى وسهولة البيان، فالمترجم هو أولاً: أستاذ فذ في اللغة الإنكليزية، وقد كان على دراية وقرب أكثر من اللغة الإنكليزية ومعانيها بحكم إقامته فترة زمنية طويلة في بريطانيا، فكان يتكلم الإنكليزية من أصلها، حتى كان لسانه في اللغة كلسان واحد منهم، ثانياً والأهم أن المترجم كانت له عناية في علوم القرآن والحديث والدين، ومنّ الله عليه فألهمه أن يضع ترجمة لمعاني الآيات القرآن الكريم في هذا الكتاب.
