لم ينل أصحاب الحسين رضوان الله عليهم من المؤرخين الاهتمام الذي يستحقونه إذ أن لكل منهم قصة... وموقف، وقد تصدى الأديب الأستاذ علي كاظم الفتال للكتابة عن الحر الرياحين الشهيد فاتحاً بذلك الباب للباحثين والكتّاب للكتابة عن أصحاب الحسين عليه السلام كل على حدة. والحر الرياحي يمثل الإرادة الحرة بكل أبعادها الإنسانية والعقائدية، إذ أنه أزال غشاوة المطامع والمكاسب المادية الزائلة عن عينه ونظر إلى التاريخ نظرة الخبير، فوجد أن الخلود من نصيب الشهداء والصالحين.
فخير نفسه بين حياة زائلة إن طالت فهي بضع سنوات والقرون وجنة عرضها السماوات والأرض، فاختار الجنة ونال الخلود. ولو قدر لغيره ممن ازدحمت بهم أرض الطف أن ينظروا للأمور نظرته لتغير مجرى التاريخ... ولكن الله سبحانه شاء أن يختبر عباده... فوضع أمامهم نموذجين: نموذج الإنسان الحر، الذي يرى الحق حقاً فيتبعه ويرى الباطل باطلاً فيجتنبه. ونموذج الإنسان الذي تستعبده المطامع الزائلة والمكاسب الرخيصة فيخلد إليها فتضع منه فرصة الخلود ونعيم المقيم.
وبالعودة لمضمون هذه الدراسة نجد أنها قد جاءت محتوية على ترجمة وافية للصحابي "الحر الرياحي" توقفت عند نسبه ومكانة قبيلته في التاريخ وعقبة من الذكور وأحفاده، كما تضمنت بلاغته وشجاعته وتوبته على يد الإمام الشهيد، والرؤيا التي رآها بهذا الصور، وأخيراً استشهاده على ترى كربلاء مدافعاً عن العقيدة والمبدأ الحق.
