يبحث هذا الكتاب في مواصفات الأنبياء والرسل الذين من خلالهم قدمت الأديان السماوية نفسها على أساس ضمان عدم تحقيق أي خطأ أو خلل في الدور المرسوم لهم، وينقسم هذا الكتاب إلى ثلاث أبواب: الباب الأول جاء في عصمة الأنبياء وتحدث عن تعريف "النبي" و"الرسول" والفرق بينهما، وعن العصمة وتعريفها ومراتبها وكيفية حصولها، ومتى تثبت للنبي، هل هي ثابتة له في كل عمرة أم زمن محدد، كما ويبحث في تساؤلات حول الأنبياء بشكل عام، وفي ارتباط العصمة بالضعف البشري، وهل لهذا الضعف تأثير في شخصية النبي أم أن مجالاته لا تضر بالشخصية المفترضة فيه، إضافة إلى فروع أخرى حول العصمة. كما وتحدث بشكل مقتضب عن علم النبي وهل يمكن أن يجهل أو يسهو وينسى، وفروع مرتبطة بذلك.
واحتوى الباب الثاني على تساؤلات خاصة بجملة من الأنبياء ما عدا النبي الأكرم محمد صلى الله عليه وسلم. أما الباب الثالث فاحتوى على تساؤلات حول الرسول الأكرم محمد صلى الله عليه وسلم، وعلى عرض لما ورد فيه من آيات قد يوحي ظهورها البدوي بتلك التساؤلات، مع تعرض من خارج الآيات إلى خصوص ما ورد في بعض الأحاديث التي تنسب السهو إلى الرسول الكريم صلى الله عليه وسلم.
وليعلم أن المصادر والمراجع التي تم الاعتماد عليها أو مناقشتها في هذا الكتاب، إضافة على القرآن الكريم والسنة المروية، يعود أغلبها إلى بحوث قدمها علماء قدماء ومحققون من السنة والشيعة، ومثل الشيخ المفيد والسيد المرتضى والشيخ الطوسي، والمحقق الطوسي، والقاضي العياض، إضافة إلى العلامة الطباطبائي من العلماء المعاصرين.
